Am I suited for Online Learning?

1. When it comes to performing activities on a computer: I generally have no problems. I encounter some problems, but usually work through them with a little help. I encounter many problems and sometimes cannot work through them even with help. Please evaluate your computer skills.

2. In an online course, I expect that I’ll need to devote: 9-12 hours weekly for each online course in a normal semester and double that range for online courses in A and B terms. 5-8 hours weekly for each online course in a normal semester and double that range for online courses in A and B terms. 1-4 hours weekly for each online course in a normal semester and double that range for online courses in A and B terms. Please indicate your time expectations.

4. My time management skills are: strong. I rarely procrastinate. average. I sometimes procrastinate. weak. I typically procrastinate. Please evaluate your time management skills.

5. How much and how in-depth I learn depends on: my own level of effort. my peers' level of effort. my instructor's level of effort. Please indicate your learning requirements.

6. Engaging in discussion with peers and the instructor: is a must for me because it enhances learning. is sometimes helpful for enhancing learning. is annoying because I learn best on my own. Please evaluate peer discussion.

7. Instructors should participate in discussions: only as needed to monitor and ensure students engage in meaningful dialogue. equal to the requirement placed on the student in the course. extensively responding to every student’s post. Please evaluate instructor discussion.

8. Group work adds: tremendous value towards my learning and I prefer working in groups. some value towards my learning and I sometimes enjoy working in groups. no value towards my learning. I learn best on my own and do not enjoy working in groups. Please evaluate group work.

9. Students and instructors should respond to questions posed to them: within 24 hours during the work week. within a couple of days. immediately. Please indicate a response time.

10. In an online course, getting assistance from others, course materials, or any other resource during tests or submitting someone else’s work as my own when completing assignments is: considered cheating and/or plagiarism, which are considered academic misconduct. generally expected unless expressly stated by the instructor. generally accepted because it is difficult or impossible to detect. Please evaluate outside assistance.

11. Communicating in writing: is easy for me. is challenging but doable. I prefer communicating in person. Please evaluate your writing skills.

12. When I am confused or don't know what to do: I reach out for help to avoid getting behind. I will try to figure it out on my own, but reach out if I can't right before it is due. I am uncomfortable asking for help and tend to let things go. Please indicate what you do when confused.
